Since President Donald Trump took office, his administration has ramped up deportations, particularly in left-wing cities. This is due to the fact that many of these cities have “sanctuary” policies that allow illegal aliens to reside there without fear of being deported.
This has allowed gang members and other dangerous criminals to live in the United States, putting Americans at risk.
This week, Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) went after one blue city over these policies.
On Monday, the Trump administration sued the city of Los Angeles over its so-called “sanctuary city” policy.
“The City of Los Angeles’ Sanctuary City laws are illegal. Those laws and policies are designed to and in fact do interfere with and discriminate against the Federal Government’s enforcement of federal immigration law in violation of the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution,” the Department of Justice wrote in the lawsuit.

“The practical upshot of Los Angeles’ refusal to cooperate with federal immigration authorities has, since June 6, 2025, been lawlessness, rioting, looting, and vandalism. The situation became so dire that the Federal Government deployed the California National Guard and United States Marines to quell the chaos,” the DOJ added.
“Sanctuary City laws and policies are designed to deliberately impede federal immigration officers’ ability to carry out their responsibilities in those jurisdictions. The Los Angeles Ordinance and other policies intentionally discriminate against the Federal Government by treating federal immigration authorities differently than other law enforcement agents through access restrictions both to property and to individual detainees, by prohibiting contractors and sub-contractors from providing information, and by disfavoring federal criminal laws that the City of Los Angeles has decided not to comply with,” it continued.
Last month, as Los Angeles descended into chaos as riots broke out over ICE enforcement, Mayor Karen Bass came out against Trump’s decision to send in the National Guard and the Marines.
“The fear people are feeling in our city right now is very real – it’s felt in our communities and within our families and it puts our neighborhoods at risk. This is the last thing that our city needs, and I urge protestors to remain peaceful,” she wrote.
