On Monday, May 11, 2026, the President signed into law:
S. 98, the “Rural Broadband Protection Act of 2025,” which requires the Federal Communications Commission to initiate a rulemaking proceeding to establish a vetting process for applicants for high-cost universal service program funding for the deployment of a broadband-capable network; and
S. 1020, which authorizes the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to extend the deadline for beginning construction on covered hydropower projects for an additional 6 years.
