Greenland’s Government Responded to Trump’s Acquisition Remarks

Date:

During President Donald Trump’s joint address this month, he spoke about Greenland potentially becoming part of the United States.

“I also have a message tonight to the incredible people of Greenland,” Trump stated during his remarks.

“We strongly support your right to determine your own future. And, if you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America. We need Greenland for national security and even international security. We’re working with everybody involved to try and get it. But, we need it really for international world security. I think we’re gonna get it. One way or another, we’re gonna get it,” he said.

Late last week, the government of Greenland responded.

On Friday, Greenland’s government called Trump’s comments about the United States acquiring the country “unacceptable.”

According to Fox News, the leaders of all the political parties published a joint statement on X condemning Trump’s remarks.

“We — all the party leaders — cannot accept the repeated statements regarding annexation and control of Greenland,” leaders wrote. “We find this behavior toward friends and allies in a defense alliance unacceptable.”

They added that they “must underscore that Greenland will continue serving ITS people through diplomatic relations, in accordance with international law.”

“We all support this wholeheartedly and strongly distance ourselves from attempts to create discord. Greenland belongs to the Greenlandic people, and we (as leaders) stand in unison,” they wrote.
